On September 14th, Youk’s Kids launched a two week book drive to generate 1,800 books needed for the Reach Out and Read programs at the Hanscom Air Force Base Clinic in Lexington, MA and the Naval Health Clinic New England in Newport, RI. “Members of our Armed Services and their families make countless sacrifices for our country. They deserve nothing but the best—including a book to read at bedtime,” said Youk’s Kids founder, Kevin Youkilis.
The book drive kicked off at Fenway Park where Kevin was joined by Boston Bruin Shawn Thornton, Mayor Menino, Reach Out and Read CEO Earl Martin Phalen, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Curious George where they had the pleasure of presenting two military families with books. Collections continued at Fenway Park throughout the day at Gates A and C.
We would like to thank the following establishments for their support of the book drive: Davio’s Boston, Hotel Commonwealth, King’s Bowling, all MA Dependable Cleaners locations, all 48 Herb Chambers locations, New England Mobile Book Fair, Barefoot Books, select Qdoba locations, Children’s Book Shop in Brookline, Wellesley Books, Porter Square Books, Scoozi, Liberty Bay Credit Union, Rodney’s Bookstore and the Royal Sonesta.
Reach Out and Read prepares America’s youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together, among these, military families. For more information about this great program, visit www.reachoutandread.org
